Art Class: Grayson Perry @ The Serpentine Gallery

Art Class: Grayson Perry @ The Serpentine Gallery

I'll admit, I always find myself trying to avoid the Serpentine Gallery in my hometown, London. I'm just so lazy and walking through an entire park just to get to an art gallery in the middle is not very high on my list of things I like to do with my day. So I put off going to see this exhibition right up until my last day in the UK and reality hit me: If I didn't go that day I'd never get to see the Grayson Perry exhibition. That was the motivation I needed to get out of bed on a rainy September afternoon and ride the tube up to Lancaster Gate.

Grayson Perry's exhibition aptly titled: The Most Popular Art Exhibition Ever! actually exceeded my expectations. Two of my friends had been to see the exhibition a week before and they also came back raving about it. It's heavy on the social commentary so if you don't like art that sparks debate it's a good thing you missed it. It ran from 8th June 2017 - 10th September 2017 and it was so popular I had to queue outside for about 30 minutes before I was allowed inside, despite it being one of the last couple of days of the exhibition and in the middle of the week.

He is a British artist, born in 1960 and famed for his ceramics, bright colours and cross-dressing. His work tackled many of the issues in society that Britain currently faces particularly the Us Vs Them gap between the rich and the poor, and poverty within England. The exhibit also boasts a somewhat satirical view on champagne socialists which I thought was interesting.

I particularly loved the tapestries featured in this exhibition and the fact that there was just so much to look it. It was very political yet it drew in crowds from every walk of life. Hands down it was one of the best exhibitions I've seen this year!
