I checked out the Louis Vuitton Exhibition in Seoul at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza earlier in the month, it is running from the 8th of June 2017 until 27th August 2017. It's also free admission so don't worry about carrying change. Not that anyone in Korea does anyway. It's open from 10:30am to 6:30pm and admission is until 6pm. Dongdaemun design plaza is at Dongdaemun Culture and History Park station, exit 1 on the blue line (line 4) and the green line (line 2).

I was very curious about this exhibition, particularly after I saw Song of Style and her sister Dani flew in to Seoul specially for the exhibition. It details the origins, life and work of Louis Vuitton and it's evolution through time to be one of the most revered brands today. I was particularly interested in this exhibition due to Louis Vuitton's roots as a trunk maker in France in the mid to late 19th century. As a lover of history, reading about how he established himself and the legacy continued on by his children amazed me. Anyone who is an aspiring carpenter can learn from the history of how they used lightweight wood  and leather in their trunks and how the styles developed over time. Fashionistas will love learning about how they diversified and went into apparel and handbags, styling some incredibly famous figures over the last two centuries and for aesthetes such as myself, there are plenty of beautiful gowns, images, furniture to lay eyes on and appreciate too!

There was a special ode to Korean fans of the brand included too, a room full of Louis Vuitton collaborations and creations for it's Korean clientele, which happened to also be culturally stimulating.

In Korean culture, families are given a set of wooden ducks at the time of their marriage. Did you know Louis Vuitton offered specially carved wooden wedding ducks for some of it's more prestigious Korean clients? The room also included a beautiful case for one of my favourite instruments, the gayageum  (가야금/ 伽倻琴) or Korean Zither as it's known in English. And finally, an incredible case for ice skates, a gift to the gem of Korea, Kim Yuna, the former Olympic ice skating goddess.

Don't miss this wonderful exhibition! You have no excuses! (Unless you don't live in Seoul).
